While on stage, I lost track of the audience and started living in the moment — that’s when the acting bug bit me
Biography
The most important thing the actor has to work on is his mind.
~ Stella Adler
When I was seventeen, the time had come to find a major that would guide me to my college of choice. I excelled at math, but I also wanted to work in a field that would foster my creativity, so I chose Information Technology, where one could always find their way to the leading edge. While in school, I took acting as an elective and also joined the modeling troupe at Savannah State University. My acting instructor offered extra credit for those who auditioned for the school play, so I went out on a limb and booked the role of ‘Junior’ in the play “Before it Hits Home” by Cheryl West.
Inspiration does exist, but it must find you working.
~ Pablo Picasso
The role of Junior was that of a goofy soldier who is home for the holidays and runs into a lot of interesting news. When coming home from college myself, I would feel very close to the character and could relate to the various tidbits interlaced throughout my performance. Through exceptional guidance and many late nights of practice, I became zoned in for showtime. It was on stage that I forgot the audience existed. I completely let go — and that’s when the acting bug bit me.
